Overcoming Wedding Day Nerves

It’s Here, your big day, the one you’ve been counting down to for months and the nerves are starting to set in, how are you going to deal with overcoming your wedding day nerves?

PRACTICE THE AISLE WALK

Walk down your hallway or garden path like you’re walking down the aisle, imagine all eyes are on you from both sides, get used to be the centre of everyone’s attention at that moment.

If you’re making a speech, practice with a trusted friend or in front of a mirror until you are confident in what you are saying, don’t try and memorise it word for word, just know the theme and flow, everything else will come and will feel less staged & practised.

POSITIVE THINKING

Reframe any negative thoughts as soon as they appear . . .

‘’I haven’t done enough to dress the venue’’, this is your perception of what others may think, instead reframe it ‘’My venue looks fantastic and is just how we wanted it, all of our guests will love it’’

Visualise using your sense, hear the ‘gasps of awe’ as your guests respond to the wow factor when they walk into the room.

BREATHE

One of our body’s basic functions and yet we forget to when the nerves get the better of us!

In the days running up to your big day, start with some basic deep breathing exercise which will help you ground to a space of calm, if needed use some meditation, there’s plenty of free apps available nowadays.

TALK YOURSELF CONFIDENT

Affirmations are a great tool for building confidence levels.  Set yourself a mantra such as ‘’I have nothing to be nervous about, all my guests want the very best for us both, there is nothing to be nervous about in front of them and the love they bring us’’ – Repeat it every day . . .

KEEP CALM AND RELAX

The day before your wedding, do as much as you possibly can to relax.  This can be difficult if you’re having a DIY wedding as you will no doubt be busy decorating your venue but I really can’t stress this enough.

Give yourself a finish time and stick to it – stop, walk away and find space for yourself.

REACH FOR YOUR CAPE

Think superhero and stand tall, shoulders back, you’ve got this!  If you walk down the aisle like this, the essence of you will shine through and all your nerves will disappear.

FINALLY . . . SEEK SUPPORT FROM THE PROFESSIONALS

No doubt about it, you will want to be in full control of your wedding.  This will be more realistic if you seek professional support for both the planning process and one the day co-ordination to take care of the day itself, it will also reduce your wedding day nerves dramatically.
